INSOMNIA = DISAMBIGUATION= SLEEPING DISORDER
i bet most of you had heard this term aite?? yesss, this word is very familiar to those who are facing difficulties / problems to fall asleep.. it's not that they don't want to fall asleep, but their body and mind refuse to sleep.. hurm.. a bit complicated i guess =)
my recent problem... i have this insomnia thing... keep like 'tarek tali' wif me.. huhu.. my body and mind are totally exhausted, but in the same time, they are unable or i can say 'refuse' to sleep.. i need rest ok.. please.. huhu.. and finally, to cut it short, i took tablets.. panadol for specific.. 6 of 'em!!! crazee huh?? but wutelse can i do?? i really need my rest.. my entire system has put the red warning sign... [asking for recharge] (cam zettai kareshi la plak^^) ... after have it, then, i can sleep... that happened at 3++ in the morning... around 8 [i guess], my boy called me [huk3.. aku baru nk tdo neh..bleh plak die nk gayot tym2 neh]... for his sake, aku layankan aje... but after dat, i have difficulities to get back to sleep.. duhhh~~~~ please ar... jangan buat aku cenggini!!! then again, i took another 4 tablets... and as the sum, i took 10 tablets of panadol just for within 12 hours.. huhuhu @_@
crazee enouf for me huh??
so, i did sum study bout this thingy...
those who their-body-refuse-to-sleep is called >> insomniac
there are many stages of insomnia. but only 3 groups are clearly discussed by researchers. they are :
1) transient insomnia
2) acute insomnia
3) chronic insomnia
[ok.. i'm sounding like a doctor here]
transient insomnia
restless from days to weeks. it can be caused by the changes of sleeping environment, timing of sleep (jet-lag) and severe depression or stress. [i'm in this stage.. huk3 (o_O)]
acute insomnia
the inability to consistently sleep well for a period of between three weeks to six months
chronic insomnia
lasts for years at a time. It can be caused by another disorder, or it can be a primary disorder. Its effects can vary according to its causes. They might include sleepiness, muscular fatigue, hallucinations, and/or mental fatigue; but people with chronic insomnia often show increased alertness.
y'all noe wut... there are several patterns of insomnia:
1) onset insomnia - difficulty falling asleep at the beginning of the night, often associated with anxiety disorder [i'm in the list!!]
2) middle-of-the-night insomnia - difficult to return back to sleep after awakened in the middle of the night [this too.. huk3]
3) middle insomnia - walking during the middle of the night
4) terminal insomnia - early morning waking
btw, what caused insomnia??
1) drugs ~ medications, herbs, caffeine, amphetamines [ no wonder... i'm a nescafe+black coffee addict!!]
2) hormone shifts ~ menstruation, menopause
3) life problems ~ fear, stress, mental tension, work problems, financial stress, unsatisfactory sex life [hahaha..normal~~still a student.. but not for the last point ya!!]
4) mental disorder
5) disturbance if the circadian rythm ~ jet lag , shift work
6) estrogen ~ according to Douma et. al. (2005), this conclusion can be made; the sudden withdrawal of estrogen, fluctuating estrogen and periods of sustained estrogen low levels correlated to mood lowering [ now i know (-.-)"]
then, how insomnia can be cured??
1) therapy ~ hypnotic medications
2) medications ~ sleeping tablets + sedatives + antidepressants
3) melatonin ~ a kind of drug
maybe there are some alternative ways; that may practically help and we can practically do;
1) aromatherapy ~ relaxation techniques
2) proper breathing techniques
3) acupuncture ~ also may help
all above are based on the study done in US.. but in MALAYSIA, we got our own method aite..
sum would say;
1) drink warm milk + almond
2) 'gaya hidup sehat' kinda thing... when we put some sports in our routine, this will help us to fall asleep at night
3) find the best pillow^^ [aha! multi-meaning ere.. kui3]
4)the best way i think ~ kembali kepadaNya.. bace Quran... bdoalah... InsyaAllah.. evrythin will be fine =)
